JOINT SMART SOCIETY & CYBER SECURITY GROUP MEETING
CHAIRED BY BARONESS NEVILLE-JONES
Topic: Securing the Internet of Things
Monday 27 June 2016
12.30-14.30 ~ Westminster
What regulatory and standards policies are needed for reliability, resilience, security, and privacy in a society reliant on smart domestic devices to enable assisted living and affordable local medical care for an aging population?
What policies are needed for a world of equally vulnerable smart cars, planes, trains and other transport systems or of shopping complexes, offices, factories, buildings, homes and consumer devices?
How could, should they overlap?
The DPA’s Smart Society Working Group aims to look at the issues arising from the huge increases in scale, ubiquity. processing capability and interconnectivity forecast for the “Internet of Things” (including machine-to-machine interfacing).
The Cyber Security Working Group aims to create, identify and support key partnerships to cut online crime and nuisance, reduce risk, increase awareness and confidence in online safety/security and establish UK leadership in Internet policing and governance.
The objective of this joint meeting is to discuss whether, and if so how, to separate issues of reliability, resilience and integrity from those of confidentiality and privacy in looking at requirements for standards, interoperability, skills and security to meet needs which may be application specific and/or generic.
