The next DSM Group meeting will be held 1100-1300 hours on Monday 23rd May 2016 in London; please email firstname.lastname@example.org to register. The Commission wants to release as much of the digital single market strategy as possible before Brussels empties out this summer, and on May 25th plans to announce 7 proposals and communications, including geo-blocking, parcel delivery and a review of the Consumer Protection Cooperation regulation (previously scheduled for release on May 18). The package proposes to make it easier and cheaper to make cross-border online purchases.
Apparently, the EU Council could delay negotiations on the Commission’s proposal for online sale of goods until 2017 (http://www.politico.eu/pro/council-could-wait-on-online-sale-of-goods-until-2017/).
EU countries are concerned the proposal overlaps with the Commission’s scheduled re-evaluation of six consumer laws, which cover a broad spectrum of issues such as quality of goods and consumer protections. Council may delay a vote pending clarification from the Commission on any plans to alter existing legislation.
This meeting is for DPA members and registered observers only. If you are interested in becoming a member we would welcome your attendance as a taster, but before any further participation, you would then need to join us. More details are available at: https://dpalliance.org.uk/join-us/.
