The next DSM Group meeting will be held 1100-1300 hours on Monday 23rd May 2016 in London; please email [email protected] to register. The Commission wants to release as much of the digital single market strategy as possible before Brussels empties out this summer, and on May 25th plans to announce 7 proposals and communications, including geo-blocking, parcel delivery and a review of the Consumer Protection Cooperation regulation (previously scheduled for release on May 18). The package proposes to make it easier and cheaper to make cross-border online purchases.
Apparently, the EU Council could delay negotiations on the Commission’s proposal for online sale of goods until 2017 (http://www.politico.eu/pro/council-could-wait-on-online-sale-of-goods-until-2017/).
EU countries are concerned the proposal overlaps with the Commission’s scheduled re-evaluation of six consumer laws, which cover a broad spectrum of issues such as quality of goods and consumer protections. Council may delay a vote pending clarification from the Commission on any plans to alter existing legislation.
This meeting is for DPA members and registered observers only. If you are interested in becoming a member we would welcome your attendance as a taster, but before any further participation, you would then need to join us. More details are available at: https://dpalliance.org.uk/join-us/.
