DigiChampz Yorkshire Conference 2015

Wednesday 25 February 2015, 14.00-18.00

3M Buckley Innovation Centre, Firth Street, Huddersfield

This European Commission-backed mini-conference will look at the impact of European digital policies on local communities, businesses and citizens.

Organised by DigiChampz and using the case study of rural villages and towns across South Huddersfield, the conference will discuss what policies are working, which are not, and how we can find workable solutions to plug the gaps. We’ll also look at better ways in which grassroots empirical and evidential data can be fed back to policy decision makers in London and Brussels.

We will also identify what basic tools local communities need to reap the rewards and benefits of the digital economy.

Topics for discussion include

  • What hold citizens and businesses back from going online
  • ‘Robust electronic communications in real time, everywhere’ – The only standard for broadband speed! (case study)
  • How local people, businesses and community groups embrace more opportunities from the digital economy
  • How can local champions support digital inclusion and e skills?

  • ‘From dark into light’ – Ultrafast broadband connectivity for the ‘northern powerhouse’
  • ‘Identifying the unidentified’ eID services for people who can’t get bank accounts
