The next DPA Age Verification Group will meet on Thursday 14th July, from 09.00-11.00 in Westminster. The main purpose of the meeting will be to assess the impact of the statement from DCMS that on the approach to be taken by the Government to introduce age verification clauses as part of the Digital Economy Bill, largely in line with its original proposals in the consultation.
This will entail requiring AV by law, and establishing a civil regime to underpin this new law. DCMS will also be continuing its dialogue with payments providers, and the porn providers themselves, to work on the finer details of the regulatory framework.
The meeting will also review the latest draft of a paper, with case studies, on a non-sector specific AV mechanism that would be both effective and commercially viable in the real world, in the light of the DCMS statement.
